With their juvenile lyrics and origins in snotty SoCal punk, few would have pegged Blink-182 as perennial influencers on modern pop. Yet witness the meteoric rise of 5 Seconds of Summer (5SOS to their fans), who are already legion even after this debut EP. A quartet from Australia, 5SOS came to international prominence opening for One Direction throughout 2013, even though their snappy pop-punk has more in common with Blink's skater jams than 1D's glossy anthems. Take "She Looks Perfect," 5SOS's ode to bedroom romps. With its crunchy guitars, soaring chorus, and tawdry lyrics, the track does its San Diego forebears proud, which stands to reason: 5SOS originally won fame online via covers of songs like Blink's "I Miss You." Joining "Perfect" here are the frisky mall-punk of "Heartache on the Big Screen," the soaring ballad "The Only Reason," and another of 5SOS's covers, this time of The Romantics' classic "What I Like About You."
